Our Programs
Curtain Raisers has supported theater arts in our community with scholarships, educational programs and events that encourage attendance at our local theaters. These programs are funded by Curtain Raisers' dues and extra contributions.
Scholarships
​
Since the 80's, Curtain Raisers has made summer scholarships part of their purpose. Annually, students who participate in theater programs at The Claremont Colleges are invited to apply for scholarships to cover their expenses for summer programs and internships. Typically the scholarships are offered to students who are juniors and will return the following year. To date, Curtain Raisers has given out over $200,000 in scholarships.

Educational Programs

Part of our purpose is to encourage community participation in and support of theater-oriented endeavors at The Claremont Colleges and in the greater community. From 1994 to 2014, Curtain Raisers, in partnership with Pomona College, presented a summer program for local junior high students called Claremont School of Theatre Arts. From 2001 to 2020, Curtain Raisers sponsored a theater presentation at El Roble Intermediate School that exposed Jr. High students to the theatre arts with a program that fit in with their United States History curriculum. Currently, Curtain Raisers is exploring new opportunities to encourage theater education in our local community.

In support of local theater programs, Curtain Raisers often arranges events for its members to attend a local theatre production or an event with an interesting speaker.
